[Stupid things happen when people drink. They suddenly decide that a) they're invincible, b) hitting on that one scary-looking bloke with an eye missing is a good idea, or c) drunken swordfights couldn't possibly end in anything but pure sodding excellence.
Which was probably the reason why Cousland didn't drink much to start with. Bad things happened when she did. Plus she started getting stupid ideas like clockwork. Not that getting stupid ideas wasn't far from the norm; more like said stupid ideas got exponentially more idiotic according to the amount of liquor consumed.

And after about two hours of solid drinking - nipped from Oghren's stash on the sly, no less - small wonder a rosy-cheeked Warden suddenly perked up, snapping her fingers in a classic eureka! pose. Can't you just feel the impending moronic statement?]

You know what would be fantastic right now? A spar!

[I'm sorry, Cousland. Your approval points will probably take the plunge with your I.Q. level any old time now.]

[So the Grey Warden would even steal a bit (putting it lightly, of course) of Oghren's ale- of all things. He leans forward to sniff her mug and immediately regrets leaning so close.]

Right now? In the state you are in? [Smirks.] I would suggest sparring with our dwarven friend- for the lulz the sake of amusement, but it appears that he went to sleep early. [He briefly turns to Oghren's side of the camp.] Or passed out. I'm not sure.

State? [Why, good sir! How offended you make this lady knight look. She even pauses to place a hand over her heart in injured dignity. Never you mind it takes a moment for her to remember just on what side her heart is located.] I assure you, I could wipe the floor with an ogre right now just as easily as I could've this morning. Don't be daft.

[Sadly, even the dregs are gone from the bottom of her dented tankard, which she regards with something like forlorn wistfulness. What she wouldn't give for a bottle of red wine.]
tentassassin on November 28th, 2010 08:01 am (UTC)
Ah, true. My apologizes. [He bows his head, like a subject to his queen. His very drunk queen.] You could be a lot worse, I suppose. But it's not that I am doubting your skills, just your reliability on handling your sword while you are...how do I put it...highly spirited? [He recalls seeing Oghren and the hound chasing each other, with the dwarf yelling something about his pants.]
Grey Warden Couslandwomanwhofights on November 28th, 2010 08:31 am (UTC)
[Oh-ho. So he doubts her reliability, does he? That's fine, she can handle that. So, instead of drawing her sword as might be expected, she removes her shield harness and drops both shield and sword in a jumble by her side.] Picky, picky. You sound like my mother. "No running in the house with sharp objects!" "Stop being so rude to the houseguests!" "No drunken swordfighting with Crow assassins!" [Yes, she did just raise her voice in falsetto for that. Shhhhhh. Not ruining her fearless leader image one whit.]

I'll just have to duel without my sword. Better?
tentassassin on November 28th, 2010 08:56 am (UTC)
[Zevran's doing his best to not laugh. Well, he is laughing. But he's trying not to appear as though he is laughing AT her. Then again, she might not even tell the difference. Ah, if only she can see herself.]

Hmm? Would it be too much to ask to duel without all this heavy armor and clothing? [Oh, he's not being too serious. Just joking as usual, yep. Unless she wants to, that is. No complaints there.]
Grey Warden Cousland: Armored shellwomanwhofights on November 28th, 2010 09:16 am (UTC)

Wait. No, clothing. She needs those. Cousland's on to you, Arainai!
But to be fair, she couldn't really wear her heavy plate versus his leather armour and call it a fair fight. Besides, she has her own soft hide underarmour that would work just fine.]
Minus the metal plating, sure. But nothing else is coming off.
tentassassin on December 5th, 2010 04:39 am (UTC)
[And he would much rather not attempt to go hand in hand with someone in heavy plate. It has happened on more than several occasions Zevran would like to remember. He can recall three or four broken ribs as his last record.]

Alas, but of course. If you were to suggest we do it without wearing anything, I'd suspect something else would have been addling your wits besides ale.

[He gets up and stretches his arms.] Well then! Let us hope this is an experience you can remember. Or not, depending on how it goes.

[That particular remark earns a good long stare as if to say 'really, Arainai? REALLY?' without having to open her mouth. She rather likes having her clothing and modesty (and self-respect) on her at all times, thank you very much. You're lucky she doesn't like having to clean blood off her helm, or she might huck it at you.

At any rate, standing up and unbuckling the straps holding her pauldrons on.]

Oh, I'll remember as much as it takes to keep bragging rights going.
tentassassin on December 5th, 2010 05:27 am (UTC)
[Ah, how he loves that reaction, even if it is just a stare. It just amuses him so, that he would make these quips just to see how she would react...which is usually that stare, but it's entertaining nonetheless.

He quickly unbuckles all the belts and straps (not that he's in any hurry, he's just used to doing it), eventually stripping down to his clothes.]

We shall see, my dear warden. [Crosses his arms and smirks. Yes, he's staring. But it's so she'd know that he isn't going to sneak up behind her in stealth and- I meaaaaannnn]
Grey Warden Cousland: They wish to be women who fightwomanwhofights on December 5th, 2010 06:11 am (UTC)
[Lovingly stacking her armour in a neat pile with her plumed helm perched atop her breastplate, Cousland stretches with much face-pulling and muttering under her breath. Mobility isn't usually an issue when one is used to simply plowing in a straight line through the competition. But then again that's when she's encased in solid alloy and not prancing about in soft tanned hide leggings, boots, and a tunic.

And finally tucking away her Oath and Reflection under the collar of her tunic, the Warden grins in that fashion she always has that just screams of impending mischief. No, she's not edging sideways in a suspicious manner.]

Well, if there's no steel allowed for weaponry, I suppose we'll have to improvise...

[Which means she'll dive for her pack with surprising alacrity. PILLOW FIGHT FTW.]
